Chris Getoor - Executive Director

Chris Getoor - Executive Director

Chris has had the great fortune of leading Strong Wings for the past 14 years. A graduate of St.Joseph's College, he studied History, English, and Secondary Education. Among other positions in education, Chris taught Spanish and Ecology at the Nantucket New School prior to his tenure at Strong Wings.

An accomplished surfer, bowhunter, gardener, outdoorsman, and adventure enthusiast, he has a true passion for sharing his love for nature and adventure with people of all ages. He and his family have a home on the property and his sons are diehard campers. Fostering the growth of this amazing organization is his life’s work and he could not be more grateful for the opportunity to lead such an amazing staff.

Claire Winship - Director of Programs

Claire Winship - Director of Programs

Claire started her Strong Wings journey as a bike camper in 1996. After graduating from Warren Wilson College with a B. A in Environmental Studies, she returned home to Nantucket and to Strong Wings in 2011 to work as a group leader. Claire accepted a year-round position in 2012 and has been in her current role since 2014. Often the first point of contact for new families and
campers, we are grateful for the warmth and joy she brings to every conversation. A talented administrator and a gifted, caring educator; Claire is an invaluable member of our team and family.

Andrew Trott-Kielawa - Assistant Director of Programs / Aquatics Director

Andrew Trott-Kielawa - Assistant Director of Programs / Aquatics Director

Andrew "TK" started his journey with the organization in 2011, working seasonally as a group leader. Years later; after graduating from the University of Massachusetts - Amherst, he accepted a year-round position as the Assistant Director of Programs. TK is an avid surfer, shellfisherman, and outdoor enthusiast with a passion for working with children.

He loves helping campers experience the island's beauty through outdoor education. TK holds certifications from the American Red Cross in lifeguarding, first aid, and is a Water Safety Instructor. When it comes to keeping our waterfront activities safe and fun, TK is the man.

Scott Tanch - Activities Coordinator 

Scott Tanch - Activities Coordinator

Scott is from Rowley, MA, and is a long-time summer resident. He has a degree in Mechanical Engineering and Math with a focus on Aerospace from UVM, where he is currently enrolled in a Masters program for Fluid Dynamics. Scott is a former camper. This will be his tenth summer working for Strong Wings and his second season in a leadership role. Beyond managing all things logistics, Scott is responsible for archery, farming, animal husbandry, and culinary programming at Strong Wings. He’s a true renaissance man.

Leslie Brannigan- Early Camp Coordinator

Leslie Brannigan- Early Camp Coordinator

Originally from Colorado, Leslie is a graduate of Skidmore College and the University of Oregon. She is currently a teacher at Tabor Academy. A loving mother of 3 Strong Wings campers, she has a deep island and institutional roots. This is her third summer in a leadership position at Strong Wings and she brings a wealth of knowledge and experience related to team building and facilitation. In addition to overseeing our programming for our youngest campers, Leslie will be working closely with our CIT staff to expand their training and deepen their experience with us. She is, “So grateful to have an opportunity to serve such wonderful young people.” and we are delighted to have her back!

Jake Love - Director of Leadership Development

Jake Love - Director of Leadership Development

Originally from Summit, NJ, Jake has been a life-long summer resident. He was a Strong Wings camper from Van camp all the way through the Warriors. Jake started his Strong Wings staff career as a volunteer CIT at fifteen and spent his college years as a group leader. Graduating from the University of Virginia in 2016 with a degree in Classics, Jake followed his passion for service and challenge by enlisting in the Army. Jake served as an officer from 2017-2022. After deployment in the Middle East and time at Fort Bragg, NC, Jake has moved on from the Army and is enrolled in an MBA program this coming fall. Fortunately for Strong Wings, he has chosen to share his gifts with us again and will be joining this summer’s camp administration team as our Director of Staff Leadership Development. Jake is a natural, gifted leader with a deep, rich Strong Wings history. We are thankful for all we know he will add to the safety, quality, and spirit of the camp. Welcome home, Jake!

Dalilah Degen - Group Leader

Dalilah Degen - Lead Counselor

Dalilah is from Berlin, Germany. She is a graduate of the American Musical and Dramatic Academy in New York City. She hopes in the future to study Early Childhood Education. She has spent this past school year teaching PE and after-school programming at the New School and has become a beloved member of the faculty. This is her second year with Strong Wings; she and her sister will be the Lead Counselors for our youngest students. Dalilah loves sewing, cooking, dancing, and otters!

Miranda Degen - Group Leader

Miranda Degen - Lead Counselor

Miranda is from Berlin, Germany and just graduated from the University of Glasgow with a BSc in Psychology. She is currently attending the University of New South Whales for an integrated master's/PhD program in Forensic Psychology. This is her second year with Strong Wings; she and her sister will be the Lead Counselors for our youngest students. Miranda is a certified yoga teacher, loves traveling and her dog Ophelia.

Luke Gumpert - Group Leader

Luke Gumpert - Group Leader

Luke is from Naples, FL. He attended Florida State University for undergrad and Law School. He has been a Strong Wings group leader for eight summers and carries a wealth of institutional knowledge and genuine passion for the Strong Wings mission. Luke enjoys surfing, spending time with family and friends, and investing in the lives of young people. Luke can be found in the water or on the bike path at 5:15 am with Chris every morning. They haven’t missed a “dawn patrol” in six years!

Rani Dey - Group Leader

Rani Dey - Group Leader

Rani is German-American. She has just finished her 4/6 year of Medical School in Vilnius, Lithuania. A former camper has been a group leader since 2016. She is one of the most talented and caring people to have ever worked for Strong Wings. Rani loves horseback riding, volleyball, skiing, and spending time with friends. Rani can't wait to meet both the new and returning campers this summer. We are so lucky to have her back!

Jamie Rowley - Group Leader

Jamie Rowley - Group Leader

Jamie is from McKean, PA, and has grown up spending summers on Nantucket. He took 2020 off of school to live and work in Big Sky, Montana. Jamie returned to Penn State this fall as a sophomore with a major in finance. This will be his fourth summer as a counselor and he’s pumped to be back! We are excited and grateful that he has recruited his younger sister to work with us as well. He loves to fish and be out on the water in his free time.

Jakobe Stevens - Group Leader

Jakobe Stevens - Group Leader

Jakobe is 21 years old and from Arizona, where he attends Mesa College. He has grown up vacationing on Nantucket with his family. This will be Jakobe’s fourth year as a group leader for Strong Wings. Since the pandemic, Jakobe has grown to love activities such as running, reading, gardening, and vegan cooking. He can do standing backflips on command and is also one of the world’s finest ice cream truck drivers. If you see him around don’t hesitate to say hello!

Liam is from the North Shore of Boston and studies Education at UMass Lowell. He is a former camper and CIT. This will be his seventh year on the staff. Liam is passionate about fitness, a wide range of sports, biking, and is a lover of fine food. He lives for his time at Strong Wings and is so stoked to get back in the saddle. He has the biggest heart of anyone you will meet and is going to make an amazing teacher.

Ava Blankman - Group Leader

Ava is from Omaha, NE. She is graduating from Arizona State University with a degree in Biology and Sustainability. This is her fourth summer working for Strong Wings. Capable, versatile, and adaptable, she has worked with every age group at one point or another. She loves exploring the island with the campers and can't wait to do it all over again this summer!

Noah Bachner - Group Leader

Noah Bachner - Group Leader

Noah is from Weston, CT, and is a rising sophomore at Bates College, studying Environmental Science. This will be Noah's third year as a group leader, after spending two years as a CIT and five as a camper. Noah enjoys spending time outdoors and is a man of many talents. He is an advanced open water SCUBA diver, an EMT, has the speed of a cheetah and the patience of a saint.

Sydney Kasmer - Group Leader

Sydney Kasmer - Group Leader

Sydney was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA, and has been a long-time summer resident. Sydney is a rising sophomore at the University of Vermont, majoring in Environmental Studies. She was a three-sport varsity athlete in high school and loves to play basketball, soccer, and lacrosse. She also loves to rock climb, surf, and mountain bike. She was a camper for many summers as well as a CIT. She is looking forward to returning for her second year as a group leader this summer!

Liz is from Cave Creek, AZ. She is a graduating high school senior and will be attending Emmanuel College this fall. Liz is a former camper and was a much-loved CIT. She is starting her second year as a group leader SO excited! Liz loves spending time with her friends, family and working with children. Perennially positive, you will never find Liz without a huge smile on her face.

Kayla is a graduating senior at Lynn University with an Elementary Education major. She was born and raised on the island and is a graduate of Landmark High School. Kayla is a former camper and volunteered as a CIT before becoming a group leader. This will be her fifth year as a full-time staff member. Kayla brings her passion for working with children and her love of the island to Strong Wings.

Alec Vollans - Group Leader

Alec Vollans - Group Leader

Born and raised in Nantucket Alec is a proud former camper and CIT. This will be his fourth year as a group leader. He is a rising junior at Belmont University in Nashville, TN. where he studies Classical Guitar. He infuses his passion for music and a wonderful sense of humor into every moment he spends with his campers. He loves traveling, performance, and nature. Alec can’t wait to return to Strong Wings in June.

Sydney Ryder - Group Leader

Sydney Ryder - Group Leader

Sydney was born and raised in Nantucket and is a graduate of Nantucket High School. She is a rising sophomore at the University of Miami and is considering Architecture and Interior design as a major. Sydney is a former camper and this will be her fifth year working at Strong Wings. She played lacrosse and field hockey in high school and was a figure skater on the Island Waves synchronized skating team. She likes going to the beach and spending time with her friends and family.

Cole Dugdale - Group Leader

Cole Dugdale - Group Leader

Cole is from London, England but grew up in the south of France. He will be a junior at Durham University, England, studying Mathematics. This will be his sixth summer working for Strong Wings and his third as a group leader. An avid surfer and sailor, Cole loves to spend time on the water. Cole loves to assist Chris at pickup time and prides himself on knowing the name and vehicle of every camper.

Aiden Roberts - Group Leader

Aiden Roberts - Group Leader

Aiden was born and raised on Nantucket and is a rising junior at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He will be graduating Pre-Med with a major in Biology. Aiden is a former camper and this will be his sixth summer working for Strong Wings. When Aiden is not working he likes to swim, surf, and play football, soccer, tennis, and golf. Fun facts about Aiden: he swam competitively on Nantucket for over 12 years but chose not to swim at UMass in order to focus on academics. He also can locate every country in the world and its capital.

Charles Davies - Group Leader

Charles Davies - Group Leader

Charlie is a rising junior at Georgetown University in Washington DC and is from Short Hills, NJ. He is studying History and Government. This is Charlie’s second summer as a strong wings group leader. Outside of his academics, Charlie enjoys playing and coaching squash and spending time with his siblings and cousins. His quiet confidence and gentle nature are huge assets to the Young Explorers.

Jack Cooney - Group Leader

Jack Cooney - Group Leader

Jack is from Philadelphia, PA, and has spent every summer on Nantucket. He will be a freshman at the University of Miami this upcoming fall and is planning on majoring in Marine Science. Jack was a Strong Wings camper for nine years, spent a year as a CIT, and last year as a junior counselor. He enjoys scuba diving, mountain biking, travel, and skiing. Jack just completed a “gap year” where he sailed and dove through the islands of the Pacific. He’s also an accomplished blacksmith!

Lilla Sharman - Group Leader

Lilla Sharman - Group Leader

Born and raised on Nantucket, Lilla will be graduating from Nantucket High School in 2022. She is a former camper and CIT, and this will be her second year as a group leader. She plans to study psychology in college next year. Lilla has been on the swim team for twelve years and loves being in the water. She also enjoys spending time with friends, traveling, skiing, and spending time at the beach.

Payton Koch - Group Leader

Payton Koch is a rising senior at New Canaan High School in New Canaan, Connecticut. She was a camper at Strong Wings for eight years and has been working as a CIT for two years. This will be her eleventh year at Strong Wings and her first year as a group leader. Payton has been coming to Nantucket ever since she was three years old and knows the island like the back of her hand. During the year, she spends most of her time doing competitive dance along with high school basketball. Payton loves spending time with the campers and can’t wait to be back!

Mamta Katarina - Group Leader

Mamta Katarina - Group Leader

Mamta lives in New Hampshire and is a rising high school senior. She was a former camper and the younger sister of Rani, one of the Strong Wings’ most believed group leaders. Mamta enjoys writing, drawing, swimming, and helping others. She is positive, creative, has loads of energy, and is so excited for the summer.

Keegan Rowley - Group Leader

Keagan Rowley is from Erie, PA, and has been spending summers on Nantucket her entire life. She is college-bound next year but her major is undecided. Keagan was a rockstar CIT last season and will join her older brother as a full member of the staff this year. In her free time, Keagan loves to be outdoors, spend time at the beach, and ride her horses.

Alex Pruchnic - Group Leader

Alex is from Mesa, Az and this will be his first journey to the coast! That being said, he’s excited to be out of his comfort zone and spend a summer on Nantucket. He is currently a sophomore at the University of Arizona studying Literacy, Learning, and Leadership with plans of becoming a high school teacher. Alex recently discovered his spiritual side through yoga, meditation, journaling, and great books. He has a passion for the outdoors and loves connecting with people on a deep level.

Katherine Calvert - Group Leader

Katherine is from Fredericksburg, VA. She is a sophomore at the University of Virginia studying Economics. Outside of the classroom, Katherine enjoys hiking, running, traveling, and spending time with friends and family. This will be her first summer as a group leader, and she is looking forward to becoming a part of the Strong Wings team!

Adeon is from Acton, MA., and is a freshman at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, PA. Adeon is planning a dual major in Computer Science and Marketing with a minor in Spanish. This is his first year as a group leader and he is beyond excited. Adeon played varsity and academy soccer all throughout high school and is currently playing at F & M. As a former track athlete, he loves to run and anything that involves exercise. Adeon loves the outdoors, especially surfing and hiking.

Isabella Budzynski - Group Leader

Isabella Budzynski - Group Leader

Isabella Budzynski was born in Nantucket but currently lives in Pennsylvania. She will be starting her senior year at The Baldwin School this fall but intends to major in psychology and minor in art once she goes to college. Isabella was a camper at Strong Wings for over seven years. This summer, she begins her first year working for Strong Wings and she is very excited to be a part of the team. Isabella enjoys all sorts of crafts, storytelling, and group games.

Caroline was born and raised in Nantucket and is a graduate of Nantucket High School. She is finishing her first year at Belmont University studying Music Business and Finance. She is a former camper and this will be her first year working with Strong Wings. She loves playing all types of music, singing, traveling, and being active. She loves to explore new places and be outdoors as much as possible. Caroline is so excited to be a counselor at Strong Wings this summer!

Tyler Grodsky - Group Leader

Tyler Grodsky - Group Leader

Tyler is from Longmeadow, MA, and is a rising senior at Longmeadow High. He started Strong Wings at five years old and was a diehard camper until he became a CIT at fifteen. He spent last summer as a junior counselor. This will be his first year as a full group leader. Tyler is a very outgoing person who finds joy in brightening up others' days. He is very active and enjoys all kinds of physical activities, especially ones with a competitive edge. A fun fact about Tyler is that I can make a backpack out of sticks and paracord.

Abby is from Medway, MA, and has spent many summers on Nantucket. She is currently a rising junior at the University of New England studying Applied Exercise Science. Her goal is to go to graduate school to earn her DPT and become a pediatric Physical Therapist. This is Abby's first year at Strong Wings, she is very excited to become a part of the Strong Wings family! Abby is on the women's lacrosse team at UNE, she loves being outdoors whether she is skiing, at the beach, or hiking. One of her favorite things to do is go on hikes with her dog Charlie.

Henry is a rising senior at Milton Academy in Milton, MA. He was a camper for eight years, and a CIT for two. This will be Henry’s 11th year at strong wings and his first year as a group leader! Growing up, Henry’s favorite things to do on Nantucket were surfing in the mornings, working at camp, and spending time with his friends and family. He has been playing lacrosse since he was in second grade, and he loves the sport. He also plans to play at the college level. He’s very excited to be working again this year as a first-time group leader!

Bridget Sobolewski - Group Leader

Bridget Sobolewski - Group Leader

Bridget is from Avon, CT. She is a rising senior at Houghton College studying Psychology, on the Clinical/Counseling path, with a minor in music. Bridget loves to write music in her free time and enjoys hiking and being outdoors. She loves going on adventures and meeting new people. This will be her first year as a group leader and she can’t wait!

Nick Altman - Group Leader

Nick is from Bedford New York and is graduating from Brunswick School in Greenwich. He will be a freshman at Boston College next year and loves all Boston sports teams. Nick has been coming to Nantucket for his whole life and has spent many summers as a camper at Strong Wings. He loves the outdoors, surfing, biking, and fishing, and it is these activities, as well as his amazing memories as a camper, that have brought him back to Strong Wings this year.

Emma Felger - Group Leader

Emma is from Wellesley, MA, and is a senior in high school at Dexter Southfield. She is headed to Tulane University in New Orleans this fall. Emma started Strong Wings when she was in first grade and is excited to return as a group leader. She loves anything to do with water and the outdoors, including body surfing, scuba diving, and biking. During the school year, Emma is busy with lacrosse and playing with her younger sister, who will be a camper this summer! She can’t wait to meet everyone and spend time with campers and new friends.

Dylan Miller - Group Leader

Dylan Miller - Group Leader

Dylan was born and raised in Nantucket. He is a rising sophomore at Plymouth State University, where he is studying Criminal Justice. Dylan began his love for Strong Wings at age six and continued as a camper for the next seven years. He enjoys fishing, biking, boating, skiing, and hiking. Dylan is looking forward to his first year as a group leader.

Will Johnson

Will Johnson - Group Leader

Will is from Charlottesville, VA, and is a rising junior at the University of Richmond studying Leadership Studies and Entrepreneurship. This will be his first summer at Strong Wings, and he couldn’t be more excited! Will has grown up visiting Nantucket every summer and has countless fond memories of friends and family on the island and can’t wait to make more this summer!
Will loves spending time with family and friends, going on runs and exercising, spending time outdoors, fishing, biking, camping, time on the water, and doing anything active!
